Sherburn D. Mason, age 104, of Mankato died Friday, November 27, 2009 at Sterling House of Mankato.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 1, 2009 at Mankato Mortuary with Rev. David Danner, officiating. Burial will be in Fairview Cemetery, rural Hayfield, MN. Visitation will be from 9:00 a.m., until the time of service Tuesday at Mankato Mortuary. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to an organization of the donor's choice.

Sherburn Devine Mason was born August 27, 1905 on a farm near Beaver Dam, Wisconsin to Albert Edwin Warren and Cornelia Virginia (Hills) Mason, the third child of four. He was named after his grandfather, Sherburn Devine Mason. He attended country school through eighth grade and graduated from Beaver Dam High School, Beaver Dam, Wisconsin in 1923 and was the last survivor of his class. On February 14, 1931, he married Sadie Schindel in rural Burnett, Wisconsin and they celebrated 66 years of marriage before her death. A daughter Marion was born in 1933. They moved to Idaho to a ranch but later came back to Wisconsin. In 1939, they moved to a farm near Blooming Prairie and raised crops and feeder cattle. He loved to hunt fox and trap. And for many years he would go to northern Minnesota to deer hunt and also traveled to Idaho to hunt with an uncle, Lorenzo Hills. Sherburn farmed until he was 62 years of age and retired. He moved to Mankato in 1981. He enjoyed traveling, wintering in Arizona, and music.

Sherburn is survived by his daughter, Marion A. (Delmar) Cords of Mankato; four grandchildren, Randall (Laurie Hawker) Cords of rural Mankato and their children, Angela Cords and fianc" (Aaron Olson), Scott Cords and fianc" (Gretchen Ingvoldstad); Steven Cords of rural Mankato and his son, Corey Cords; Brenda (Richard) Nelson of Hudson, Ohio and their children, Jered, Tanner, and Brandon Nelson; Bradley (Christine Edstrom) Cords of rural Mankato and their children, Rachel and Amy Jo Cords; many nieces and nephews.

Sherburn was preceded in death by his wife, Sadie, August 4, 1997; brother, Nelson Mason in 1994; two sisters, Inez Schrader in 1997 and Martha Rake Balzaretti in 1998.
