Evelyn Cecelia Mountain, age 89, of Vernon Center, died Wednesday, October 28, 2009 at Oak Terrace Assisted Living, North Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, October 31, 2009 at St. Matthew's Catholic Church, Vernon Center, with Rev. Brian Sutton, officiating. Burial will be in St. Matthew's Catholic Cemetery, Vernon Center. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., Friday at Lake Crystal Mortuary with a 3:30 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour before service at church on Saturday. Memorials are preferred to St. Matthew's Catholic Church or ISJ Hospice.
Evelyn was born in Good Thunder, April 5, 1920 to Roy M. and Catherine "Cora" M. (Bowe) Stratton. She graduated from Good Thunder High School and attended Mankato Commercial College. Evelyn married Stanley Mountain on September 7, 1940. They farmed near Garden City until they retired to Vernon Center in 1979. She devoted her life to her children and their families, assisting Stanley with the farming, forever cooking, doing laundry, and taking care of others.
Evelyn is survived by her six sons, Bill (Diane) of Eagle Lake; Dave (Bev) of Good Thunder; Bob (Betty) of Mason City, IA; Jerry (Marcia) of Brooklyn Park; Tom (Judy) of North Mankato; John (Donna) of Waterloo, IA; three daughters, Janet (Jay) Kienholz of Vernon Center; Rita (Brad) Marks of Owatonna; Patti (Mike) LaRue of Maple Grove; twenty one grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; twenty two great-grandchildren; special nephew, Jim (Betsy) Heins of Vernon Center; in-laws, Margaret (Dave) Lenarz and family; Jerome and Clare Mountain and family; and Monica Pagel and family.
Evelyn was preceded in death by her husband, Stanley in 1990; sister, Dolores (Edward) Heins; brother, Robert Stratton; and two grandsons, Craig Mountain and Scott Kienholz.
Evelyn's family would like to express their appreciation to the caring staff at Oak Terrace Assisted Living in North Mankato where she spent the past seven months.
