Lorraine Mary Purrier, age 94, of Mankato, died Sunday, February 24, 2013 at Monarch Meadows in North Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, March 2, 2013 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mankato. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Friday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour before service at church on Saturday. Burial will be in Kern's Oak Grove Cemetery, Belgrade Township, Nicollet County, Minnesota. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. John the Baptist Catholic Church, Mayo Clinic Hospice - Mankato, or donor's choice.
Lorraine was born December 5, 1918 to Peter and Margaret (Hodapp) Veigel in Mankato. She graduated from Mankato High School in 1938. She worked at Mankato Laundry and Candy Shop. She was united in marriage to Edward Purrier on August 24, 1940 at SS. Peter and Paul Church parsonage. They farmed most of their lives with the last being in the Waterville Area. They also cared for two foster children. After Edward's death, Lorraine moved to Mankato and did child care for 5 years. Lorraine loved crossword puzzles, crocheting, embroidery, bingo, playing cards, and fishing. She was an excellent cook, and was known for her fried chicken and various breads. She enjoyed all her nieces and nephews and they enjoyed spending time with her during the summers.
Lorraine is survived by her niece and care giver, Nancy (Marlin) Schmidt; other nieces and nephews, Robert Wallin, Margaret Keim, Linda Wallin, Duane (Teresa) Wallin, Dwight (Connie) Wallin, Delores Burnell, Betty (Dale) McShane, Donald (Marilyn) Sieberg, Betty (Sieberg) Goettl, Adeline Sieberg, Tom (Kathy) Sieberg, Rosemary Freeberg, Joanna Gostomczik, Larry Veigel, Dick (Wendy) Veigel, Donna Revering, Corine (Jim) Guddahl, Mary (Mike) Hogan, Liv Galles, Monroe (Mary) Purrier, Aline Mann, Marian (James) Nelson and many great and great-great nieces and nephews.
Lorraine was preceded in death by her husband, Edward on July 26, 1985; sisters, Clodie (Charles) Sieberg, Florence (Mike) Herr, Marie (Lawrence) Synder, Lucille (Nick) Galles, Olivia (Gunnard) Wallin; brothers, Ralph ( Mary and Laura) Veigel, Clarence Veigel, Theodore (Marvel) Veigel, Bertram Veigel, Thomas (Phyllis) Veigel; two brothers in infancy, Art and Sylvester; and many extended family.
Lorraine will be missed by many that knew her for her love and kindness that was unconditional. She will be sadly missed by all, our love goes with her.
