James "Jim" Yokiel, age 83, of North Mankato, formerly of Mapleton, died on Monday, February 25, 2013 at Mayo Clinic Health System, Mankato.
A Memorial Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, February 28, 2013 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Teresa Catholic Church with Fr. Tim Biren officiating. Visitation will be on Wednesday from 5-7 p.m. with a prayer service at 7:00 p.m. at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will be at Union Cemetery in Mapleton.
James was born on December 28, 1929 in Minnesota Lake to Paul and Marie (Sonnek) Yokiel. He graduated from Minnesota Lake High School. Jim served in the United States Navy and Air Force for a total of 13 years. Jim was united in marriage to Melva Duncanson in May 1975. He worked in bartending and construction. Jim enjoyed playing cards and card clubs with Melva.
Jim is survived by siblings: Ann Dauk of Cleveland, MN, Eva (Willie) Vaughn of Round Rock, TX, Rose Wilson of North Mankato, Ruth Hanson of Mankato, Norbert (Janet) Yokiel of Minnesota Lake, Joan (Ken) Kuntz of Las Vegas, NV, and Anita Pocius of Azusa, CA; numerous nieces and nephews; and four step-children. He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister, Mary Derner, two infant brothers, and one step-son.
