Rolf Werner Otto, age 92 of Mankato, died Sunday, June 8, 2008 at his home.
Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 13, 2008 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mankato, with Rev. Paul Lauer officiating. Entombment will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6 " 8 p.m. on Thursday at Mankato Mortuary and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Rolf was born on September 10, 1915 in Denison, IA. He was the son of Heinrich "Henry" F. and Hermine (Neumann) Otto. Rolf grew up in the Windom area. After high school, he and his brother, Gus owned and operated Otto Brothers Plumbing in Windom for several years. Rolf served his country in the U.S. Army during WWII, from June 9, 1942 until Nov. 24, 1945. While stationed at Camp Grant in Rockford, IL, Rolf was united in marriage to Ilah E. Kelly on August 13, 1942. He then was sent overseas to serve in North Africa and Italy. Upon discharge from the Army, Rolf returned to the plumbing business in Windom for several years. He moved his family to Mankato in 1952. Rolf was employed with Sears Roebuck for a short time and retired from Globe Plumbing Supply after 30 years with the company.
Rolf is survived by his four sons, Gary W. (Patricia) Otto, Douglas Otto, Bradley Otto, and Rick (Marie Simmonds) Otto, all of Mankato; nine grandchildren; one step-grandson; five great grandchildren; four step-great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; beloved wife, Ilah in 1991; three brothers, Henry, Carl, and Gus; one sister, Ruth Nelson; one niece and several nephews.
