Edna Thom, age 97 died Sunday May 25, 2008 at Immanuel " St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Funeral services for Edna Thom will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, May 29, 2008 at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. Jack Dahl and Rev. Paul Lauer officiating. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Montgomery. Visitation will be held from 4 " 7 p.m., Wednesday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour before the service on Thursday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be given to Our Savior's Lutheran Church building fund or the donor's choice.
Edna Susanna Helena Wieland was born October 20, 1910 at home in Heidelberg, near New Prague. She was the daughter of John Friederich (Fred) and (Jo) Hannah (Huber) Wieland. She was baptized and confirmed at Friedens Evangelic Lutheran Church in New Prague. On November 22, 1932, she was united in marriage to Fred Albert Thom at St. Johns Evangelic Lutheran Church in Montgomery. Edna had resided in New Prague from 1910-1932, moved to Nicollet from 1932-1947, and had lived in Mankato since 1947.
Edna was a homemaker for her family, an implement dealer's assistant, a Stanley product sales representative, and a house cleaner. She worked for Automatic Electric Co. (Midtex) as a machine operator from August 1953-1975 and was also employed at Hager Manufacturing. Edna worked in Home Health Care until 1990, was a night nurse aide, and was employed with Immanuel Hospital.
Edna was very active in the community and her church, Our Savior's Lutheran Church. She was a member of the Mankato Moose Lodge, Mankato Eagles Club, and was a Union member and officer.
Edna is survived by her three children, Dennis Thom and his wife, Jane of Prior Lake, Marion Brunz of Mankato, Cedric Thom of Nicollet; eight grandchildren; eleven great-grandchildren; sister, Margie Busacker of Jordan; sister-in-law, Ruth Yaeger and her husband Kenneth of North Mankato; many nieces and nephews. Edna was preceded in death by Fred Thom; her parents; grandson, Mark Thom; two sisters, Anna Fuhrman and Elnora Gosewisch; and two brothers, Walter Wieland and Fred Wieland, Jr.
