Rose Marie FitzSimmons, age 81, of Good Thunder, died Sunday, May 25, 2008 at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 28, 2008 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Good Thunder, with Rev. Brian Sutton officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be 2-8 p.m. on Tuesday at Mankato Mortuary, with a 2:00 p.m. prayer service. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Wednesday. Memorials are preferred to the Blind and Hearing Impaired Association or to an organization of the donor's choice.

Rose was born June 18, 1926 in Lyra Township, Blue Earth County. She was the daughter of Edward and Elizabeth (O'Brien) Good. Rose was a 1944 graduate of Good Thunder High School and graduated from Mankato Teachers College. She taught school in Bricelyn, Mapleton, and was a substitute teacher in Good Thunder. She was united in marriage to Michael J. FitzSimmons on June 19, 1948 in Vernon Center. Rose was a homemaker and assisted Mike with their farm in Lyra Township. She was an active member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Good Thunder, where she participated in CCW and was a sacristan and CCD teacher. She was also a member of PTA, Mother's Club, and United Fund. She enjoyed playing cards and listening to Twins baseball games. Rose loved spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Rose is survived by her five children, Mary Sue (David) Sohre of Mapleton, David (Terri) FitzSimmons, Gary (Nancy) FitzSimmons, Kevin (Christine) FitzSimmons all of Good Thunder, and Patty (John) Thomas of Amboy; 19 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; four sisters, Catherine Stebbins of St. Peter, Mary Smith of Shakopee, Dorothy Good of Mankato, Patricia (Clifford) Denn of Wabasha; four sisters-in-law, Joan Good and Betty Good both of Mankato, Mary Jane Wandersee of Mankato, Margaret (Conley) Hiller of Good Thunder; brother-in-law, Robert FitzSimmons of Good Thunder; many nieces, nephews, and her caregivers.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mike in 2005; three brothers, Francis, Norbert, and Leslie; two sisters, Loreen and Evelyn; a sister-in-law and three brothers-in-law.
