Ruth Abrahamson went to her eternal home on Tuesday, October 6, 2009, at home surrounded by her family, after a seven plus year courageous battle against appendiceal cancer (appendix cancer).
Funeral service will be 12 noon on Friday, October 9, 2009 at Peace Lutheran Church in North Mankato with Rev. Brad Kerkow, officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Thursday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the services at the church on Friday. Burial will be 3 p.m. Saturday, October 10, 2009 in Oakwood Cemetery, Weyauwega, WI. Following the burial, there will be time to visit with the family at St. Peter's Lutheran School in Weyauwega, WI. In lieu of flowers, Ruth requested that memorials be given to Bethany Lutheran College Scholarship Fund.
Ruth was born on March 8, 1949 to Gordon and Esther (Dusel) Hallman in Waupaca, WI. Ruth lived in rural Weyauwega until she married Harvey S. Abrahamson Jr. on April 20, 1968. Together they lived in east central Wisconsin until 1980 when they moved to Mankato, MN, so that Harvey could study for the ministry. While in Mankato, Ruth earned her nursing degree and served as a nurse for 24 years. She was a very supportive wife throughout Harvey's schooling and ministry in Midland, MI, Princeton, MN, Suttons Bay, MI, Ulen/Hawley, MN, and New Hampton/Calmar/Waukon, IA. They were blessed with six children; Julie (Michael) Schlief Elk River, MN, Michael (Karen) Abrahamson Princeton, MN, Rebecca (Daniel) Jensen St. Cloud, MN, Tabitha (Brian) Kraft Charles City, IA, Nathanael and Jacob Abrahamson North Mankato, MN. They were also blessed with ten grandchildren; Ashley Schlief Phoenix, AZ, Ethan Schlief Elk River, MN, Jonathan Abrahamson River Falls, WI, Andrew and Hannah Abrahamson Princeton, MN, Felicia, Brandon, and Jason Jensen St. Cloud, MN, Isaiah and Avril Kraft Charles City, IA.
She is survived by her husband Rev. Harvey Abrahamson; six children; ten grandchildren; two brothers, Arthur (Mary) Hallman Waupaca, WI, and Daniel Hallman Weyauwega, WI; two brothers-in-law, Gary Abrahamson Wausau, WI and Larry (Charleen) Abrahamson Waupaca, WI; sister in-law, Gloria Abrahamson Wausau, WI; several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Gordon and Esther Hallman; grandparents, Harry and Clara Dusel, Art and Lydia Hallman; and a sister-in-law, Arlene Hallman.
