William A. Gushurst

William Albert Gushurst, known to his friends as "Gus", died on September 14, 2009, at Benedictine Living Community of St. Peter. Gus was 84.

Service will be held at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato on Saturday, September 19, at 3 pm. Mankato Mortuary assisted with arrangements.

Gus was born in Lead, South Dakota " a colorful mining community located in the heart of the Black Hills that is rich with Gushurst history. After graduating from Lead High School, he joined the army and proudly served his country in the 110th Anti Aircraft Artillery Gun Battalion during World War II. Following the war, he returned home and graduated from Notre Dame, majoring in economics. He later married Hildegard Roeszies Cope and settled in Mankato where he worked as a District Sales Manager for Oldsmobile, a division of General Motors, serving much of southern Minnesota for over 20 years. Gus and Hilde loved to play golf " they were members of the Mankato Golf Club for many years. Gus was also a member of the Bullshippers Coffee Club, where he enjoyed an occasional donut and cup of coffee with his friends.

Gus is survived by his wife, Hildegard Gushurst; his sons, Alan, Paul, and Richard Gushurst; and step sons Peter and Ronald Cope. He was preceded in death by his parents, Albert and Genevieve, as well as his brother and sister, David and Rita Marie.

Gus, you will be dearly missed. God be with you.
