Richard "Porkey" Miller, age 68, died Monday, September 14, 2009 at his Mankato home.

A memorial service will be held 3:00 p.m. Saturday, September 19, 2009 at the Chapel at Calvary Cemetery with Rev. Jacek Saroka officiating. Private family burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to MRCI or to an organization of the donor's choice. Mankato Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Richard Phillip Miller was born August 8, 1941 in Mankato to Asa P. and Loretta (Nenow) Miller. He was the second youngest in the family of seven children. Porkey had worked at Heils Grocery, was a volunteer at the Echo Food Shelf, and was an employee of MRCI. Porkey lived with his sister, Judy and her family for many years and during the past twelve years has been a resident of REM.

Porkey had numerous enjoyments, some of which included dancing on Bandwagon and listening to polka and country western music. He loved old cars and was a NASCAR fan. Porkey liked wearing big belt buckles of which he kept very shiny.

He is survived by his sister, Judy Funk and husband, Ray of Mankato; brother, Bernie Miller of Franklin; sister-in-law, Marge Miller of Mankato; many nieces, nephews and their families; and the special REM family. Richard was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Ed, Bob, Jerome, and Dale; sister-in-law, Sheila; brother-in-law, Gary; nephew, Patrick; and great niece, Katie.
