Marian Henrietta LaFavor, age 91 of Mankato and formerly of Garden City, died Monday, September 14, 2009 at Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 19, 2009 at First Christian Church in Mankato, with Rev. Paul Ficzeri and Rev. Tom Johnson officiating. Burial will be in Garden City Cemetery. Visitation will take place one hour before the service at the church. Mankato Mortuary handled the arrangements.
Marian was born on November 30, 1917 to James and Theresa Webster in St. Paul, MN. She attended Mankato State University where she earned Bachelors and Masters Degrees in Education. She was united in marriage to Lyle G. LaFavor on July 5, 1946 at the Little Brown Church in the Vale in Nashua, IA. The two moved to Garden City after the marriage. Marian worked at Rapidan High School as a reading instructor for the special education program. She later taught at Garden City High School and then at Le Center High School until her retirement.
Marian was a member of the Garden City Christian Church and was actively involved in the Christian Women's Fellowship for which she served a term as president. She also served as an Elder, a Sunday school teacher, and a licensed interim pastor. She also served as a hospital chaplain at ISJ Hospital. After moving to Mankato, she attended the First Christian Church. Marian also enjoyed traveling, reading, and golfing.
Marian is survived by her husband, Lyle LaFavor of Mankato; children, David and his wife, Wendy LaFavor of North Mankato and Kathryn Hoffner of Gypsum, KS; grandchildren, Dr. Jolyn Jaberi and her husband, Dr. Joby of Coppell, TX, and Justin LaFavor of Greenville, NC.
