Katharine E DeLavan

Katharine Emily DeLavan, age 28 of North Mankato, died Saturday, September 5, 2009 at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 3 pm on September 20th at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Mankato (www.UUMankato.org). Katie loved to eat so we are asking those attending the celebration to bring a small item of packaged food for the offertory. The food will be donated to the Echo Food Shelf. Memorials are preferred to Life Works, Living Links, or Heifer International.

Katie was born on November 19, 1980 to Raymond and Marianne (Giamanco) DeLavan in Brooklyn, NY. She spent the first 14 years of her life in New York before moving to Mankato. She was a 2001 graduate of the Life Skills program at Mankato East High School under the loving mentorship of Kelly Enright and many other caring individuals. In 2005 Katie moved to Arlington House in North Mankato. At Arlington House she was cared for very lovingly by the staff of Living Links. She was involved in many of the activities provided by LifeWorks. Katie loved music and harmony, playing ball, watching Wheel of Fortune, and loved to eat (with gusto). Katie will be remembered for her patience and the hugs and unconditional love that she gave.

She is survived by her loving parents, Marianne and Peter Johnson of Mankato; brother, Micah Peter Johnson of San Diego, CA; grandparents, Marion and Kendrick Johnson of Maple Grove and Loretta and Raymond DeLavan of Brooklyn, NY; aunt, Vicki Mocerino and her husband Frank of Staten Island, NY; uncles, Peter, Steven, and Christopher DeLavan; Uncles Perry and Mark Johnson; soul sisters, Emily and Carly Rieber of California; many other relatives, friends, and caregivers.

Katie was preceded in death by her father, Raymond DeLavan; grandparents, Anthony and Dorothy Giamanco; and uncle, Anthony Giamanco.

Marianne and Peter would like to send heart-felt thanks to all of Katie's caregivers and staff. Your love for Katie touched us all and made the world a better place.
