Robert "Bob" A. FitzSimmons, age 84 of Good Thunder, died Sunday, August 16, 2009 at his home surrounded by his family.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Thursday at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Good Thunder with Rev. Brian Sutton officiating. Burial will be in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 3 " 8 p.m., with a 2:30 p.m. prayer service on Wednesday at Mankato Mortuary. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, the family prefers memorials to St. Joseph Catholic Church or the donor's choice.

Bob was born August 22, 1924 to Myles and Rose (Lorentz) FitzSimmons in Mankato. He graduated from Good Thunder High School in 1943. He served his country in the U.S. Army from 1944"1946 in the Pacific Theater during World War II. He was united in marriage to Bonnie Caven on July 13, 1948 in Vernon Center. Bob was a lifetime farmer in the Good Thunder area. He was a lifelong member of St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Good Thunder, charter member of Good Thunder American Legion Post 616 and member of Mankato VFW Post 950. Bob was a former member of the Amboy-Good Thunder School board. He enjoyed spending time with his family, especially their sporting events, hunting, fishing, farm mechanics, wintering in Lake Havasu City, AZ and traveling. His most recent trip in April 2009 was to Washington DC with Alice and his nine children to see the WWII Memorial.

Robert is survived by twin daughters, Laureen (Dean) Sohre of Good Thunder, Maureen (Larry) Hollerich of Amboy; seven sons, Tom (Cindy) of Good Thunder, Pat (Marie) of Dassel, John (Jan), Richard (Julie), Paul (Gina), Bill (Gretchen) all of Good Thunder, and Mark (Suzy) of Eagle Lake; 31 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Jane Wandersee, of Mankato, Margaret (Conley) Hiller of Good Thunder; three sisters-in-law, Bernadine Dickey, Margaret Flintrop, and Eleanor Caven; special friend and caregiver, Alice Glover of Eads, CO; many nieces, nephews and cousins.

Preceded in death by his wife, Bonnie on March 20, 1998; an infant son, Robert, Jr. and a brother, Mike.
