Thomas Andrew Severson, age 66, of Mankato went home to be with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, January 6, 2008 after a courageous battle with lung cancer with his family by his side.
An 11:00 a.m. Celebration of Life Service will be held on Thursday, January 10, 2008 at Christ the King Lutheran Church with Rev. John Petersen and Rev. Glenn Taibl officiating. Interment of cremains will be in Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Wednesday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Christ the King Lutheran Church, Precepts Ministries, International Cooperating Ministries, or ISJ Hospice Program.
Thomas was born on January 10, 1941 in Madelia, MN to Andrew and Jean (Othoudt) Severson. He was baptized and confirmed at the First United Methodist Church in Lake Crystal, MN. He graduated from Lake Crystal High School in 1959 and attended Mankato State University. He was proud to serve his country in the United States Air Force and was discharged with honors in 1966.
Thomas married Carol A. Davis on June 6, 1964 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Madelia.
Thomas was a member of Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato, MN. In the 1970's, he served as president of Zion Lutheran Church congregation in Lake Crystal for two terms. He enjoyed singing with friends in the choir and in a quartet called "The Sometimes Gospel" quartet. Thomas took great honor in being class administrator for Bible Study Fellowship for several years.
He was employed at Kato Engineering as a mechanical designer in the engineering department from 1967 to his retirement in 2007.
Thomas is survived by his wife, Carol and three children, Timothy Severson (Heidi) of Owatonna, Michele Wiles (Jeffery) of Fort Collins, CO, and Kristina Ott (Joseph) of Minneapolis; two grandchildren, Andrew Severson and Grace Ott; one step-grandchild, Kacie Nelson; brother, Don Severson (Diane) of New Auburn; three aunts, Francys Wigley of Lake Crystal, Jerri Johnson of Mankato, Priscilla Severson of Madelia; in-laws, Catherine Bristol (Lonnie) of Mankato; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
