Jesse Caballero, age 86, of Mankato, died December 31, 2007 at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, January 7, 2008 at Mankato Mortuary with Rev. Jerry David officiating. Burial with military honors will be in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 - 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before the service on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.
Jesse was born November 7, 1921 in Mexico to Refugio and Juana (Paredes) Caballero. He was united in marriage to Juanita M. Estrada on November 7, 1943 at the Evangelical Covenant Church in Mankato. Jesse served in the U.S. Army during World War II. In 1945, he started his own delivery service, Caballero Delivery Service. He contracted with numerous businesses, including freight, electrical and plumbing supplies, and newspapers including the Mankato Free Press for over 50 years.
Jesse enjoyed fishing, fish tanks, watching old John Wayne and Herbie the Car movies, and his canine angel dog, "Trouble". His true passion was spending time with his grandchildren and being very proud of his children and their accomplishments.
Jesse is survived by his wife, Juanita of Mankato; three children, Linda (Terry) Bleecker of Eagan, Gloria Caballero of El Paso, TX, Daniel Caballero of Mankato; a nephew/son, Alfred Padilla of Minneapolis; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and one on the way; sisters, Nicalosa Berentson of Mapleton, Trina Perfecto of Bloomington, Mary Berentson of Mankato, Alice Simmons of California, and Rachel Peterson of Mankato; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. Jesse was preceded in death by his parents, an infant sister, and a brother, Lupe.
