Geneva Blackstad

Geneva Clarentina Blackstad, age 91, of New Hope, formerly of Mankato, passed quietly on Friday, December 21, 2007 at Northridge Senior Home in New Hope, Minnesota.

Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 27, 2007 at Christ the King Lutheran Church in Mankato, with Rev. John Petersen officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery in St. James. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Association or to an area food shelf. Mankato Mortuary is handling arrangements.

Geneva was born on July, 28, 1916, in Sveadahl, Minnesota. Geneva graduated from the University of MN School of Agriculture in 1939. On May 11, 1941, she was united in marriage to Milton Blackstad in Sveadahl Besides being a homemaker for her family, Geneva was a cook in the Mankato School System from 1959 " 1975. She was a charter member of Christ the King Lutheran Church.

Geneva is survived by her husband of 67 years Milton; sons, Loren (Audrey Selvold) Blackstad of Crystal and Larry (Rita) Blackstad of Minnetonka; son-in-law, Donald Luiken; grandchildren, Erik (Jan) Blackstad, Tor Blackstad, David (Kasia) Luiken, Pam (Kevin) Malesker, Cathy (Peter) Luiken-Meyer and Aimee Blackstad; five great-grandchildren, Amanda Malesker and Jarik, Benika, Marta and Tymek Luiken; two nephews and four nieces.

She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, LoAnn Luiken; a brother and a sister.
