John Bernard O'Connor, age 75, of Mankato, died Tuesday, December 4, 2007 at Mankato House Health Care Center.
Memorial service will be 7:00 pm., Friday, December 7, 2007 at Mankato Mortuary. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. until the service time. Memorials are preferred to the Alzheimer's Association.
John was born on December 23, 1931 in Good Thunder. He was the son of John F. and Elva (Brecht) O'Connor. John attended school in Good Thunder. He served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from 1952 until 1954. John was united in marriage to Shirley Wersal on July 2, 1955 in Mankato. He was employed as a Local #10 sheet metal worker. John was a member of VFW Post 9713 and American Legion Post 11. He enjoyed farming during his younger years, fishing, hunting, playing accordion, and Sunday drives in the country.
John is survived by his wife, Shirley of Mankato; three sons, Robert (Patty) of Mankato, Michael (Marlene) of Denver, CO, Patrick (Michelle) of St. Michael; a daughter, Lynn (Joel) Matzke of Good Thunder; five grandchildren, Kevin and Neil O'Connor, Jacob O'Connor, Katelyn Matzke, and Danielle Larson; a great-grandson, Cullen O'Connor; a sister, Marie Nelson of Mapleton; a brother, James (Sharon) O'Connor of Mankato; also nieces and a nephew.
He was preceded in death by his parents and an infant brother.
