Cyril Anthony Hager age 75, of Madison Lake died Sunday, December 2, 2007 at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital.
Funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at All Saints Catholic Church in Madison Lake with Rev. Syl Brown officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Madison Lake. Visitation will be held at All Saints Catholic Church from 4-8- p.m. Wednesday with a 5 p.m. prayer service and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to American Legion Post #311 in Elysian or to an organization of the donor's choice. Mankato Mortuary is handling arrangements.
Cyril was born August 19, 1932 in Madison Lake to Raymond and Marie (Baynes) Hager. He was a Naval Corpsman with the Marines from 1950-1954 during the Korean Conflict, where he was a Second Class Petty Officer. On November 24, 1954, he was united in marriage to Louise Galler at St. Ann's Catholic Church in Janesville. Cy was a 1957 Minnesota State graduate with a Bachelor of Science Degree, majoring in Mathematics and obtained his Masters of Science Degree in 1965 from Drake University. Cy was a farmer throughout his life in addition to his 33 year high school mathematics teaching and football, basketball and baseball coaching careers. He taught and coached at Waldorf from 1957-1965, at Lake Crystal from 1965-1977, and until his retirement in 1990 at Waterville-Elysian High School.
Cy had 50 years of continuous membership in the American Legion, Post 311 where he was its past commander and gambling manager for 12 years. He served as the Third District Vice Commander for four consecutive years from 1999-2003 and also its Chaplain. Cy served as the 3rd District Boys State Chairman and was a counselor for Boys State for 11 years.
Survivors include his wife, Louise Hager of Madison Lake; two sons, Thomas (Nancy) Hager of Waterville, Richard (Cassandra) Hager of Fort Worth, TX; three daughters, Julie (Steven) Sauve of Burnsville, Jody (Stuart) Walker of Centennial, CO, Clare (Dave) Anderson of Parker, CO; nine grandchildren; brother, Donald (Leona) Hager of Mankato; sister, Dorothy (Robert) Butler of Los Banos, CA; sister-in-law, Shari Hager of Mankato; nieces, nephews, and cousins. Cy was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Joseph Hager; and sister, Ramona Fitzloff.
