Sophia Odia Ziegler, age 92, of rural Rapidan passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2007 at Hillcrest Health Care Center, Mankato.

Funeral service will be held at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, September 22, 2007 at Calvary Lutheran Church, Rapidan with Rev. Krista Strum officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery, Rapidan. Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m. Friday at Landkamer-Johnson-Boman Funeral Home and will continue one hour before service at church on Saturday.

Sophie was born September 27, 1914 to Edwin and Sophia (Peterson) Gilbertson in Lanesboro, MN. She was baptized at her mother's funeral in the Union Prairie Lutheran Church, Lanesboro. She was later raised by Hans and Stina Westby of Peterson, MN. She was confirmed in the Highland Prairie Lutheran Church and was active in the church choir and Luther League. She was united in marriage to Claude A. Ziegler on December 12, 1936 in Mankato. She had worked as a nursing assistant for St. Mary's Hospital, Rochester and Hillcrest Health Care Center. She was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church and had been active in the ALCW and had been a representative to Luther Memorial Home, Madelia. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, embroidery, visiting with family, and fishing with her husband.

Sophie is survived by her husband of 70 years, Claude; three sons, Gene (Vivian) Ziegler of Rapidan, Darrell (Dianne) Ziegler of rural Good Thunder, Dale Ziegler and special friend, Cindy of Odin; four daughters, Barbara (Ardie) Schweim of Janesville, Marlene (Thomas) Herbranson of Lakeville, Sandra (Richard) Daniels of North Branch, Claudia (Royce) Sohre of Good Thunder; 19 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; foster brother, Shelby Westby of Peterson; brother-in-law, John (Laverta) Ziegler of Bruno, three sisters-in-law, Inez Shaw and Deloris Schonerock both of Mapleton, Irene Ziegler of Mankato; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Sophie was preceded in death by her parents; foster parents; two brothers; three sisters; two sons-in-law; one granddaughter, Lori O'Neil.
