Edith M. Ruthenbeck, age 86 of Mankato, died Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at the Mankato Lutheran Home.

Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, September 22, 2007 at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. Jack Dahl officiating. Burial will be in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5 " 7 p.m., Friday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour prior to the service on Saturday. Memorials are preferred to Mankato Lutheran Home, Our Saviors Lutheran Church mission work, or the donor's choice.

Edith was born in rural Clinton, Minnesota on March 5, 1921 to John and Addie ( Swezey) Johnson. She attended a one room school house in district 12 and Clinton High School. She was united in marriage to Alvin Ruthenbeck on September 1, 1940 at Bethany Lutheran Church in Malta Township. Edith was a homemaker, and employed by SS Kresge, Tradehome Shoes, and DM Printing. She was a proud member of TOPS and KOPS. Edith enjoyed her family, traveling, knitting, and tracing the genealogy of her and Alvin's family.

She is survived by their son, Dennis (JoAnn) Ruthenbeck of San Luis Obispo, CA; daughter, Margene (Lowell) Lovelace of North Mankato; grandchildren and their families, Kris (Paul), Tracy, Brian, and Michael MacKendrick of Mitchellville, IA, Sheryl (Mark), Abby and Danielle Gulden of North Mankato, Bonnie (Joel), Mitch and Megan Meyerhoff of Minnesota City, Justin (Casey) Ruthenbeck of San Diego, CA, Nissa Ruthenbeck of Kailua, HI; sister, Ann Boals of Appleton, MN; brother-in-law, Rev. Lornell (Lois) Ruthenbeck of Gladstone, OR; sisters-in-law, Theoda Bjerken of Columbia Heights, Elda Ruthenbeck of Mankato; many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin in 2000; sisters and brothers-in-law, Alvina Dally Wiese, Lehnert and Alethea Ruthenbeck, Thelma and George Obermoller, Elnora Anderson, Karl and Helen Ruthenbeck, Hilbert Ruthenbeck, Julian Bjerken, and Victor Boals.
