Nola F. Kelley, age 93, of Mankato and formerly of Garden City, died Saturday, September 15, 2007 at the Mankato Lutheran Home.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at the Garden City Christian Church, with Rev. Tom Johnson officiating. Burial will be in the Garden City Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. on Monday at the Lake Crystal Mortuary, and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Memorials may be given to the Garden City Christian Church.
Nola was born July 12, 1914 near Blairsburg, IA. She was the daughter of Emil and Alice (Urich) Anderson. Nola and her family moved to Garden City in 1917. She survived the Spanish flu epidemic of 1919. Nola was a 1932 graduate of Garden City High School. She graduated from Door-Kewaunee Normal School in Algoma, WI, the Mankato Technical College in 1972, and attended Nursing School in Rochester and Chicago, IL. Nola was united in marriage to E. Fay Kelley on June 9, 1940 in Garden City. She assisted Fay with their farm and raised turkeys. Over the years, Nola was employed as a cook at Garden City High School and post-mistress for the Garden City Post Office. She was a nurse in Chicago, IL and later head nurse at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato. Nola was a member of the Garden City Christian Church. She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, playing piano and organ, gardening, and spending time with her grandchildren.
Nola is survived by her son, Dr. Dean Kelley of Mankato and Buffalo City, WI; daughter, Ann (Brad) Hendricks of Mankato; three grandchildren, Sam (Amy) Hendricks of Duluth, Max Hendricks of Boise, ID, and Olivia Hendricks of Mankato; two sisters, Emma Baker of Sycamore, IL and Wilma (Alton) Carlson of Alexandria; brother, Phil Anderson of St. Louis Park; also many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Fay in 1997; two sisters, Mae and Leda; and two brothers, Vern and Lloyd.
