Gordon S. Lewis, age 81 of North Mankato, died Thursday, August 9, 2007 at the Mankato House Health Care Center.
Funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday, August 13, 2007 at the Lutheran Church of Good Shepherd, North Mankato with Rev. Vance Becker officiating. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park, Mankato. Visitation will be held from 2- 5 p.m. Sunday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour before the service at the church on Monday.
Gordy was born December 29, 1925 to Arthur and Agnes (Stenerson) Lewis in Garden City Township, Blue Earth Co. Minnesota. He served his country in the U.S. Army Signal Corps during World War II. Gordy was stationed in the European Theater until the end of hostilities and then in Japan during reconstruction. Gordy was united in marriage to Betty Lou Wersal on March 18, 1950 in Mankato. He worked as a truck driver (owner/operator) for nearly 30 years before starting his next career as a Highway Maintenance worker. Gordy retired from MN DOT in 1993, but continued working part-time as a driver for Land-to-Air Express and Super Value Foods.
Gordy is survived by a daughter, Linda Lewis of Mankato; two sons, David (Lauri) Lewis of North Mankato, Terry (Ellen) Lewis of Owatonna; six grandchildren, Erin (Chazz) Roberts, Nicole (Leon) Grack, Lisa (James) Wendinger, Michael (Elizabeth) Lewis, Steven and Kevin Lewis; four great-grandchildren, Alexis, Justin, Anthony, and Madison; three brothers, Danny (Maggie) Lewis, Darrel (LaVola) Lewis, Jim (Sharon) Lewis, all of Lake Crystal; brother-in-law, Irvin Neumann of Lake Crystal; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Preceded in death by his wife, Betty, in 1995; parents; brothers, Dale Lewis, and Dean Lewis; sister, Marlene Neumann.
