Dorothy M. (Riebel) Rapp, age 85 of Mankato passed away peacefully on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at Mayo Clinic Health Systems Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 a.m., Saturday, December 10, 2011 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Mankato with Rev. John Wilmot officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be held from 4 " 7 p.m., with a 6:30 p.m. rosary Friday at North Mankato Mortuary " NORTHVIEW. Visitation will continue one hour before the service at the church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Leukemia Association.
Dorothy was born on January 21, 1926 in LeSueur County, Minnesota, she was the daughter of Peter and Marie Riebel. She attended elementary school in a one-room country school. Later she graduated from LeCenter High School. Dorothy attended Franklin Nursing School in Minneapolis for her LPN degree. On Sept. 25, 1946 Dorothy married Robert Rapp of Cleveland at St. Henry Church. They were blessed with six children.
Dorothy spent 27 years of her career working for Mankato Lutheran Home. She was a dedicated, compassionate nurse. Dorothy loved spending time with her family especially vacations "up north". Dorothy enjoyed playing cards, traveling, fishing and telling stories about her family. Dorothy was a charter member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church. Her children attended elementary school there. Very important to Dorothy was her volunteer work in retirement, such as Meals on Wheels, VINE, NARF and Mankato Lutheran Home Auxiliary.
Dorothy was preceded in death by her husband Robert "Bob" of 45 years and her parents. She is survived by her children, Dick (Nancy) Rapp of Centennial CO, Bonnie (John) Rahne of Dallas TX, Carol Rapp of Minneapolis, Diane (Lan) Evenson of Mankato, Jim (Sabine) Rapp of Rosemount MN, Colleen (Lee) Fowler of Fargo ND, 14 grandchildren; brothers, Bob, Melvin, Loren and sister Pat; nieces, nephews, cousins, and many friends.
