Elaine Marian (Beske) Anderson, age 84, of Mankato, passed away Monday, December 5, 2011 at Oaklawn Health Care Center in Mankato after a short and courageous battle with cancer.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Monday, December 12, 2011 at Grace Lutheran Church in Mankato. Visitation will be from 1 - 4 p.m. Sunday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at church. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park following the service.

Elaine Marian Anderson was born June 10, 1927 to William and Emma (Schwartz) Beske in Danville Township near Minnesota Lake. She went to country school for five years then graduated from Minnesota Lake High School.

Elaine attended the University of Minnesota Nursing School and College of Education. She practiced nursing at University Hospital and was a member of the faculty at Minneapolis General Hospital and Hennepin County Medical Center. She met her husband Kenneth Anderson in Minneapolis and they were married on June 30, 1956. They lived in Minneapolis and were blessed with two children, Arlen and Evonne. The family moved to Crystal Lake, IL in 1976 and then to Thief River Falls in 1982. After Ken's passing in 1992, Elaine moved to Mankato.

Elaine had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed bowling, photography, reading, bike riding, swimming, hiking, camping and traveling in her youth. She also had a lifelong love of learning. She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, the Blue Earth County Historical Society (where she volunteered), and was active in her local TOPS group. She did volunteer work much of her life, including Meals on Wheels, nursing home visitations, and driving seniors to church and on errands. Elaine was very independent and with the support of family, friends and neighbors, was able to live in her own home until her passing.

Elaine is survived by son, Arlen (Kathy) Anderson of Marietta, GA; daughter, Evonne (Kent) Broten of Warren, MN; granddaughter, Kendall Anderson; sisters, Ardella Fields and Betty Sawyer; brother, Luverne Beske; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ken; sister, Delores Grosgreutz; brothers, Adrian and Willmar Beske.
