Kathryn A. "Katie" Penkhus, age 30 of Mankato, died Monday, November 7, 2011.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 12, 2011 at St. John's Episcopal Church, Mankato, with Rev. Paul Rider officiating. Visitation will be held 4-7 p.m., Friday, November 11, 2011 at North Mankato Mortuary-Northview and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Blue Earth-Nicollet County Humane Society.

Kathryn Anne was born February 3, 1981 to Stephen D. and Martha I. (Ralston) Penkhus in Mankato. In 1999, she graduated from Loyola High School. Katie attended Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter. She rode and showed horses, was a member of the Minnesota Quarter Horse Association, where was a past Youth President and was part of State High School Leadership. Katie loved her horses, dogs, cooking, gardening, giving to friends, and traveling. She always gave freely to her family and others. She was loved for her infectious smile and outgoing personality. Katie especially cherished spending time with her family.

Katie is survived by her parents, Dr. Stephen and Marty Penkhus of Mankato; brothers, Todd Penkhus of Pine River; Tim (Laura) Penkhus of Brainerd; loved and cherished niece, Lauren Ruth; grandmother, Ruth Ralston of Grand Forks; grandfather, Floyd Penkhus of Palm Desert, CA; aunts and uncles, Mike (Lynne) Greenwood of Maple Grove, Richard (Nettie) Ralston of Seattle, WA, Ross Ralston of Grand Forks, Mark (Cindy Chase) Penkhus of Dallas, TX; cousins, Adam Penkhus, Ian and John Greenwood; her dogs, Boo, Shortie; and her horse Stinky.

Katie was preceded in death by her grandfather, Dr. Lloyd Ralston; grandmother, Margaret Penkhus; sister-in-law, Anna Penkhus and aunt, Carol Ralston.
