Larry Blair Enright, age 64 of Mankato passed away peacefully at his home, November 4, 2011.
Larry was born on November 22, 1946 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In 1958 his family moved to Hartley, Iowa where he graduated from high school in 1965. He attended college in Worthington and Mankato State until he was called in the draft. He served with distinction in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War with the 9th Infantry Division as a Light Weapons Infantryman. His decorations included: Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart, two Bronze stars, Army Commendation medal with "V" for Valor and other medals. He was also awarded the Republic of Viet Nam Cross for Gallantry (with Palm). He returned to Fort Campbell, Kentucky where he continued to serve with an honor guard traveling to the funerals of soldiers who had been killed in the war.
After his military service, Larry came to Mankato, graduating from Mankato State College with a teaching degree in art and special education. He began his teaching career at the Faribault State Hospital and then taught in the Mankato Area Public Schools for more than 30 years, with a two-year leave to teach in the Department of Defense school system in Hanau, Germany. Larry shared his love of art and nature with his students, family, and many friends. He had a special connection with students with learning difficulties and he made a difference in many lives. He retired from teaching in June.
Larry is survived by his son Anthony, of San Diego, California, sons Nicholas and Ahn and daughter Maggie, all of Mankato, his mother Irene Enright, brother Steven (Teri) Enright, sister Rebecca (Larry) Harmelink, all of Sioux Falls, South Dakota, and sister Kristine (Larry) Reiners of Apple Vally, Minnesota.
Larry was preceded in death by his Father DuWayne "Pete" Enright, and his daughter Journey Ahn.

A gathering in memory of Larry will be held at 11am on Saturday, November 12, 2011 at the Viet Nam Veterans Memorial on Stolzman Road in Mankato followed by a luncheon at the Morson Ario VFW at 1900 North Riverfront Drive in Mankato.
