Clara B. Affolter, age 95, of Mankato, died Saturday, November 5, 2011 after a courageous battle with cancer at Mayo Clinic Health System " Mankato with her loving family by her side.
Funeral service will be at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, November 12, 2011 at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato, with Rev. Paul Nolting officiating. Interment will be in Pilgrim's Rest Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Friday at Mankato Mortuary (www.mankatomortuary.com), and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Saturday. Memorials are preferred to Immanuel Lutheran School, Mankato.
Clara Bertha was born on September 9, 1916, in Cordova Township, Le Sueur County, MN. She was the daughter of Ferdinand and Lillie (Tolzman) Schueler. Clara attended rural grade school and Immanuel Lutheran Grade School for seven years. She was a 1935 graduate of Mankato High School and a 1937 graduate of Mankato Commercial College. Clara was united in marriage to Walter Affolter on August 23, 1942, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato. They met in and remained active in the church youth group. Clara was employed with the C.D. Ott Insurance Agency, Nielsen's Greenhouse, and was with MidTex for 22 years. Clara was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in Mankato where she participated in the Women's Auxiliary and the Church Study Club. For many years, she was a member of her sewing club with her close friends. Clara was an amazing, selfless, loving mother, grandmother, and aunt.
Clara is survived by her three sons, John and Ronald Affolter both of Mankato, and Donald (Sharon) Affolter of Eden Prairie; two grandchildren, Laura (Ryan) Johnson of Newtown, PA and Ryan Affolter of Minnetonka; two great-grandchildren: Benjamin and Evan Johnson; one sister, Lillian (Robert) Barnes of St. Louis, MO; a cousin, Hazel Custer of St. Peter; and many nieces and nephews.
Clara was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Walter in 2001; daughter, Constance in 2001; infant brother, Harry; and brothers: Edwin and Donald Schueler.
