Johanne "Jo" Kristine Knudsen, age 99 of Waite Park, Minnesota and formerly of Mankato, died Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at the St. Cloud Hospital in St. Cloud, Minnesota.

Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, November 7, 2011 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. Jay Dahlvang officiating. Burial will be in Eagle Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service on Monday at the church. Memorials may be given to Mayo Clinic Health Systems, Mankato Hospice, Bethlehem Lutheran Church or the donor's choice. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.

Johanne was born October 20, 1912 in Hope Township, Lincoln County, Minnesota to Neils and Marie (Johansen) Sorensen. She attended country school thru the 6th grade and then Tyler Public School where she graduated in 1930. She attended Mankato State College from 1934-35 and worked as a cook-manager of the Danish Young Peoples Home from 1936-37. She was united in marriage to Karl Knudsen on February 27, 1937 in Tyler, Minnesota. They lived in Redwood Falls from 1937-47, then Dennison, MN from 1947-49 and they moved to Eagle Lake in 1949. She provided Day Care for many years. Johanne enjoyed gardening and working on volunteer projects. She moved to Mankato in 1995.

Johanne is survived by four children, Marie (Nick) Hasselfeldt of St. Cloud, Arlyn (Debra) Knudsen of South St. Paul, MN, Kenneth (Patricia) Knudsen of Glenwood, MN, Glenn (Elizabeth) Knudsen of Chesterfield, Virginia; ten grandchildren; eighteen great-grandchildren; three great-great grandchildren; sister, Edith Ousky of New Prague; sister-in-law, Beverly Sorensen of Annandale; many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Johanne was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Karl on August 24, 1993; four sisters; and one brother.
