Lyle George LaFavor, age 96, of Mankato, died Tuesday, November 1, 2011 at Laurel's Peak in Mankato.

Funeral Service will be held 11:00 a.m., Saturday, November 5, 2011 at Garden City Christian Church. Visitation will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at NORTHVIEW, North Mankato Mortuary, 2060 Commerce Dr., North Mankato, MN and will continue one hour prior to service at the church. Burial will be in Garden City Cemetery. Memorials are preferred to the Garden City Cemetery Association.

Lyle George LaFavor was born January 7, 1915 to George and Meta (Buck) LaFavor in Mankato. He graduated from Garden City High School in 1932. Lyle was united in marriage to Marian Webster on July 5, 1946 in Nashua, Iowa. He entered the United States Army where he served in the Corps of Engineers from December of 1937 to August of 1945. Lyle served as an instructor for the Army Engineer School from January to July of 1951. He was a member of the US Army Reserve from December of 1945 until his retirement at the age of 62.

Lyle was employed with the Minnesota Department of Transportation as a civil engineer. He was a member of the Garden City Christian Church, where he taught Sunday School and was an Elder. After moving to Mankato he became a member at First Christian Church (Resurrection Lutheran) of Mankato. Lyle was a member of the American Legion in Lake Crystal, the Korean War Veterans, Military Officers Association of America, Order of the North Star, Order of the Engineer, and was a Pearl Harbor survivor.

Lyle is survived by son, David (Wendy Jo) LaFavor; daughter, Kathryn Hoffner; two grandchildren, Justin and Jolyn; sister, Myrtle Nelson.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Marian; 4 brothers, Stanley, Merton, Gordon, George; 2 sisters, Doris and Gladys.
