Lee Wachtel, age 74 of Mankato, died Sunday, October 30, 2011 at his home in Mankato.

A memorial gathering will be held at 10 a.m., Wednesday, November 2, 2011 at Mankato Mortuary. Burial with military honors will take place in Woodlawn Cemetery in St. Peter. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred.

Leroy Henry Wachtel was born January 10, 1937 in Winthrop, MN to Jon and Emma (Fischer) Wachtel. He joined the United States Air Force during the Korean War, spending time in Germany and England. He married Maryann Burger in Mankato and later divorced. Lee drove truck and worked in maintenance for Honeymead (CHS) for 37 years before retiring. He was a member of the American Legion Post 11 in Mankato.

Lee loved sports. He also loved watching his kids participate in sports. He enjoyed fast pitch softball and Gopher basketball and football. Lee also enjoyed western movies and fixing things that people brought to him.

Lee is survived by significant other of 25 years, Karen; daughter, Lori (Bub) Kuyava of Watertown, MN; 3 sons, Brian and Terry of Eagle Lake, Todd of Mankato; 5 grandchildren, Jessica, Emma, Connor, Trevor, and Benjamin. He will also be missed by Karen's extended family.

He was preceded in death by his parents, 3 brothers, and one sister.
