Harald Laurits Dinesen, age 93, of Mankato died Sunday, October 16, 2011 at Oaklawn Health Care Center, Mankato.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Friday, October 21, 2011 at the First Christian Church (1735 E. Main Street), Mankato with Rev. Virgil L. Peterson, officiating. Private family burial will be in Antrim Cemetery, rural Lewisville. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Thursday at Mankato Mortuary with a 6:30 p.m., Masonic Service and will continue one hour before service at church on Friday. Memorials may be given to the donor's choice.
Harald was born February 9, 1918 to Laurits D.S. and Emma (Jensen) Dinesen in Minneapolis. He graduated from Marshall High School, Minneapolis in 1937 and then the University of Minnesota with a B.S. in Agriculture in 1941. Harald was united in marriage to Clarice A. Hammond on December 30, 1942 in Truman. Harald taught school in Fulda for two years before continuing his education at Michigan State University and graduating with a doctorate degree in Veterinary Medicine in 1945. He returned to Minnesota and practiced in Janesville for ten years. The family moved to Salem, Oregon where he worked as a veterinarian for the state of Oregon before returning to Minnesota. Harald owned and operated the Mankato Livestock Commission Company for many years before starting the Mankato Pet Hospital from which he retired. He was a member of the Shriners and drove the T-Bird cars in many parades, the Masonic Lodge, a past president of the Janesville School Board, and was an active member of the First Christian Church, Mankato. He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and his lifelong love of animals.
Harald is survived by his wife, Clarice of Mankato; two sons, James (Cathy) Dinesen of Leawood, Kansas and their children, Erika and Christopher Dinesen, Robert (Linda) Dinesen of Janesville and their children, Wendy Dinesen (Stacey Busswitz), Nicholas Dinesen, and Bobbi Jo Dinesen (Andy Miskowic); two great-grandchildren, Spencer Miskowic and Drew Busswitz; several nieces and nephews; and his cats, Baby Buddy and Mickey.
Harald was preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Donald Dinesen and Elmer (Jeanne) Dinesen.
