Raymond A. Freeberg, age 85 of Mankato, died March 24, 2010 at Immanuel " St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday at Grace Lutheran Church in Mankato with Rev. Orlin Mandsager officiating. Burial with military honors in Minneopa Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 2 " 5 p.m., Sunday at Mankato Mortuary and one hour before the service at the church on Monday.
Raymond was born November 7, 1924 to Carl "Culley" and Ellen (Strom) Freeberg in Mankato. He was a 1942 graduate of Mankato High School. Raymond served his country in the U.S. Navy in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. After his honorable discharge, he joined the Mankato Police Department on December 15, 1947 and worked there until April 6, 1986. He was baptized and confirmed at Grace Lutheran Church, where he was a lifelong member. He was also a member of the VFW Post 950, and the American Legion Post 11. He especially enjoyed trapping, hunting, and fishing with his twin brother, Bob and his son's Bill and Bob.
He is survived by special friend, Audrey Watchke of Mankato; sisters-in-law, Rosemary Freeberg and Gen Freeberg both of Mankato; many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Raymond was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Gus, Vic, Arvid, and Robert; sister, Elaine.
