Edmund A Jans

Edmund Alvin Jans, age 87, of North Mankato, died Thursday, March 4, 2010.

Memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Monday, March 8, 2010 at Belgrade United Methodist Church, North Mankato. Visitation will be held one hour prior to service, Monday at church. Mankato Mortuary is assisting the family with arrangements.

Edmund was born September 4, 1922 to Andrew and Emilie (Kolschefski) Jans in Sheridan County, ND. He graduated from Drake High in Drake, ND in 1940. Edmund was a Naval Aviation Navigator in the U.S. Navy during WWII. He worked as a banker in Drake as well as in Arlington when he moved there in 1963. He then worked as a banker in Stewartville until his retirement. Edmund was a member of the Belgrade U.M.C., the Lion's Club in Arlington and the American Legion in Drake. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, bowling and in his earlier years was a Boy Scout Leader.

Edmund is survived by his five children, David (Mary) Jans; Dennis Jans; Don Jans; Deborah (Wayne) Buck; Daryl (Sharon) Jans; five step-daughters; nine grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; one brother, Melvin (Eileen) Jans; one sister, Aileen Voelz; many nieces, nephews, and other relatives.

Edmund was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Doreen; brother, Verlin; brother-in-law, Dick Voelz.
