Karen Lillian Narveson, age 64, died February 24th, 2010, in Maui from a tragic bicycle accident.
A Celebration of Life will be held at 11 a.m., Friday, March 5, 2010 at Messiah Lutheran Church, North Mankato. Interment will be at Woodland Hills Memorial Park, Mankato. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m., Thursday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Friday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to Maui Medical Center Foundation, 285 Mahalani Street #25, Wailuku, Hawaii 96793, Messiah Lutheran Church, or donor's choice.
Karen was born November 4, 1945, in Lanesboro, MN to Clarence and Lillian (Skrukrud) Gilbertson. She was a 1963 graduate of Lanesboro High School. She was employed by Prudential Insurance Company until marrying Alan "Al" Narveson on January 16, 1966. She moved to Colorado Springs in 1966 and worked in the office with Colorado Interstate Gas Company. In 1968 she was a nurse's aide at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital and later had an in-home day care. For 10 years she was a home maker and stay at home mom until starting at Carlson Craft in 1981. In 1989 she began working at Sammon's Grinding as Office Manager. She retired November 1, 2007, after 13 years with Prudential Action Realty as their Office Manager. She was currently the Property Manager for Medford Manor in North Mankato.
Karen was an active member of Messiah Lutheran Church for over 36 years; counting offerings, greeting, and altar guild. She was a member of the Traveling Twelve Card Club for 35 years.
Karen loved spending time with her grandchildren, tending her garden, making lefse, cooking and baking, reading, traveling, Wednesday night golf outings, biking with the Circle of Friends, playing cards with the Traveling Twelve Card Club, and making everybody's day brighter. Even in death she was able to give the gift of life to others by being an organ donor.
Karen is survived by her husband, Alan of 44 years; daughter, Jamie (Steven) Wolf of Phoenix, AZ; Mark (Mary Kay) of Bloomington, MN; and Brad of Eagan, MN; grandchildren, Dillon and Logan Wolf and Megan and Samuel Narveson; sisters, Elaine Gilbertson of Winona, MN, Joanne (Kenneth) Vrieze of Racine, MN, Barbara (John) Kufahl of Grand Junction, CO; brother, Carroll (Anna Rose) Gilbertson of Lanesboro, MN; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Karen was preceded in death by her parents, Clarence and Lillian Gilbertson, and brother, Curtis Gilbertson.
