Stanley Haefner

Lifelong Mankato resident, Stanley John Haefner, age 87, died Thursday, February 25, 2010 at Hillcrest Health Care Center.

Stanley was born February 8, 1923 in Mankato. He was the fifth child of fifteen children born to John and Clara (Schuerer) Haefner. In 1943, he entered the US Army and served during World War II in the Pacific Theatre. He was honorably discharged in 1946.

Stan was united in marriage to Marge Juberien in 1950 in Mankato and after 29 years of marriage, Marge died in 1979. In 1950, Stan began his career with Taystee Bread in sales and delivery. He was employed for 32 years and retired in 1982.

Stan was a member of the American Legion for over 50 years, VFW, and Knights of Columbus. Stan loved all sports, playing cards and enjoyed life.

Survivors include several nieces and nephews, including special nieces, Sue, Bec, Pat, and Nanc; brothers and sisters, Ralph Haefner of Mankato, Walt (Lee) Haefner of North Mankato, Angie Brunz of Mankato, Janet Nelson of Mankato, Harry (Donna) Haefner of Mankato, Dennis (Phyllis) Haefner of Madison Lake, Dolores and (Ron) Wright of Mankato, George (Ann) Haefner of Arkansas, Ruth Haefner of Mankato, Audrey (Dewey) Mettler of Madison Lake, Ed (Jean) Haefner of Hackensack; sisters-in-law, Nila Haefner of Mankato, Doris Slechta of Waterville, Jean Salzle of Madison Lake, and Betty Juberien of Apple Valley; and many, many friends.

Stan was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marge; brothers, Les Haefner and Clair Haefner; sister, Mary Kudrle; brothers-in-law, Al Brunz and George Nelson; and longtime friend, Sr. Marguerite Horejsi.

In accordance to Stan's wishes, the family will be gathering privately for prayers and burial. For the numerous family and friends who would like to celebrate Stan's life, there will be an opportunity to gather at the American Legion from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, February 28, 2010. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the American Legion or to an organization of the donor's choice. Mankato Mortuary is assisting with arrangements.
