Harold George Mauer, age 90, of North Mankato, died Thursday, January 28, 2010 at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, February 2, 2010 at Holy Rosary Catholic Church in North Mankato with Rev. Peter Nosbush officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be from 4-6 p.m. on Monday at Mankato Mortuary with a 6 p.m. prayer service, and will continue one hour before service at church on Tuesday.
Harold was born May 3, 1919 to George and Grace (Daley) Mauer in Madelia. He graduated from Madelia High School in 1937. Harold served his country during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Corps from March 1942 to September 1945. He was with the 426th Bomb Squadron and served in the China-Burma-India Theater. Harold was stationed in India working as a mechanic for B-24's that flew "over the hump". After the war, he worked at Hanska Hardware. Harold was united in marriage to Lorraine Pauley on April 14, 1947 in St. James. He was employed by Mankato Service Company for 32 years before retiring in 1984. As a salesman for auto supplies, he was conscientious to his customers, well liked, and a good friend to many. Harold was an active member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, and American Legion Post 11 of Mankato.
Harold was a kind, considerate, and faithful man who always put others before himself. He enjoyed ballroom dancing, traveling, golfing, and most of all, time spent with his family and friends.
Harold is survived by his wife, Lorraine of North Mankato; two daughters, Gail Mauer of Shoreview and Monica (Kerry) Langsford of Roseville; two grandsons, James and Paul Langsford; sister, Kathryn "Kay" Munson of Sioux Falls, SD; and 10 nieces and nephews, their spouses, and many grand nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, George and Grace; his brother-in-law, Sidney Munson; one nephew, Eric Munson; and one grand nephew, Connor Munson.
