Mae Julia Evelyn Russell, age 92, of Mankato, formerly of St. Clair, died Saturday, January 16, 2010 at Pathstone Living in Mankato.
Funeral service will be 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, January 19, 2010 at Hilltop United Methodist Church in Mankato. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery in St. Clair. Visitation will be 4-7 p.m. on Monday at Mankato Mortuary and continues one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. Memorials are preferred to Hilltop United Methodist Church.
Mae was born on March 3, 1917 in Minneapolis. She was the daughter of Conrad and Signe (Olson) Westmark. Mae was a 1935 graduate of Roosevelt High School in Minneapolis. She later graduated from Miss Wood's Kindergarten & Primary Training School in 1937. Mae was united in marriage to Hugh Russell on June 7, 1940 in Minneapolis. She taught kindergarten and elementary classes in St. Clair. She also assisted Hugh with his insurance business. Mae was a member of Hilltop United Methodist Church in Mankato. She enjoyed golfing, bowling, traveling, crocheting, reading, gardening & flowers, and especially spending time with her family and grandchildren.
Mae is survived by her two daughters, Sandra (Gary) Gilderhus of Owatonna and Darla (Bernie) Laven of North Mankato; one son, Steve (Carolyn) Russell of Lakeville; ten grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; one sister, Irene Troedson of Richfield; one cousin, Melvin Straub of Rancho Mirage, CA; also nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Hugh in 1981; two grandchildren, Herb Kamis and Lisa Laven; and one brother, Elmer.
