Melvin Otto Buddensiek, of Mankato passed away peacefully surrounded by family on Monday, August 16, 2010 at Hillcrest Health Care Center in Mankato at the age of 94.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, August 19, 2010 at the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, North Mankato. Visitation will be held from 10:00 a.m. until the time of service at the church. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park Cemetery in Mankato. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Melvin was born in Lafayette Township in Nicollet County, to Fritz and Emma (Prahl) Buddensiek. Melvin married Rosella Wendt on January 11, 1942, and farmed near Comfrey, MN until moving to Mankato, South Bend Township, in 1953. He worked for Allied Gas until 1965, and then for Kato Engineering until his retirement in 1981. Melvin enjoyed his garden, playing cards, especially with friends at the Summit Center, his family and sitting outside visiting with his neighbors. He was also active in church, The Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, where he and Rosella were members for over 50 years.
Melvin is survived by his wife of 68 years, Rosella; two sons, Aaron (Sharon) Buddensiek of Richfield; Gary (Ginny) Buddensiek of Shakopee, grandchildren, Andy of Shakopee, Kristy (Tony) Herrley of Edina, Neal (Jennifer) of St. Paul, Ryan of Richfield; great grandson, Luke of St. Paul (Neal & Jennifer); two sisters, Edith King and Emma Colburn of Springfield; and many nieces and nephews.
Melvin was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Roland and sister, Hilda Heller.
