Marcella Minna Birr, age 102, of Good Thunder, died Saturday, August 7, 2010 at the Mapleton Community Home.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, August 11, 2010 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Good Thunder, with Rev. Rudolph H. Maurer Jr., officiating. Visitation will be one hour before service at church on Wednesday. Burial will be in St. John's Lutheran Cemetery. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements. Memorials may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church or donor's choice.
Marcella was born January 31, 1908 to Herman C. and Minna (Meyer) Doering in Good Thunder. She was united in marriage to Joseph B. Birr on February 27, 1929 at her parents' home in rural Good Thunder. Marcella farmed with her husband in the Amboy area until 1942 when they purchased a farm near Good Thunder. Marcella was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church where she sang in the church choir and was a member of the ladies aide. She was also a member of the Maple River Study Club and enjoyed crocheting and hand work.
Marcella is survived by two daughters, Marliss (George) Rosin of Stewartville and Arlene (Hilbert) Bergemann of Good Thunder; three sons, Orin (Dorla) Birr of Mankato, Alvin (Susie) Birr of Good Thunder, and Marvin Birr of Good Thunder; twenty four grandchildren; forty six great-grandchildren; eighteen great-great-grandchildren; sister, Gertrude Bate of Good Thunder; sister-in-law, Florence Peters of North Mankato; many nieces and nephews.
Marcella was preceded in death by her husband, August 6, 1977; son, Luverne Birr in 2002; three grandchildren; one great-grandchild; two daughters-in-law; brother, Carl Doering.
