Conrad H. Sletta, age 84, of Mankato passed away at his home on Saturday, July 10, 2010 of pancreatic cancer.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, July 17, 2010 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church, Mankato with Pastor Jay Dahlvang, officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Friday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Saturday. Memorials may be given to the Bethlehem Lutheran Church Music Program, Mankato ISJ Hospice, the Mankato Symphony Orchestra or to a charity of choice.
Conrad was born on April 23, 1926 in St. James, MN to Ole and Thora (Blackstad) Sletta of LaSalle. He graduated from St. James High School and later served in the U.S. Army during World War II. Following graduation from Macalester College, Con spent 38 years in the Property and Casualty Insurance business. He was part owner of the Insurance Center, later retiring from First Bank Systems Insurance. On August 20, 1960 he was united in marriage to Jane M. Bergene of Adams, Minnesota, a 50 year marriage this August.
Con was an active member of Bethlehem Lutheran Church and served on many committees and boards as well as congregational president. He was a member of several local organizations including the Kiwanis, American Legion, and Elks and served on the executive boards of the Mankato Jaycees, the YMCA, and YMCA Camp Olson. He was also a member of the Mankato Golf Club, and for the last several years served as a ranger at Terrace View Golf Club. Con was a proud Norwegian, an avid duck hunter and also enjoyed fishing, golfing, skiing, playing ping-pong, pool, and pfeffer.
Con is survived by his wife, Jane; two daughters, Sarah (Barry) O'Shea of Colorado Springs, CO, and Laura (Jim) Stefanski of East Lyme, CT; three granddaughters, Katherine O'Shea and Caroline O'Shea of Colorado Springs, CO and Anna Stefanski of East Lyme, CT; two sisters-in-law, Charlotte Sletta of Portland, OR and Jeanne Sletta of Colorado Springs, CO; several nieces, nephews, cousins, and many great friends.
Con was preceded in death by his parents and four brothers; Theodore, Ivan, Orville, and Lester.
He left us with unforgettable memories to cherish.
