Robert George Schramski, age 88, of Mankato, died Sunday, June 27, 2010 at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital in Mankato.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, July 3, 2010 at Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato with Fr. Ted Hottinger officiating. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m. Friday, July 2, 2010 at Mankato Mortuary. Burial will be at Calvary Cemetery in Mankato.
Robert was born April 28, 1922 to Leo and Florence Schramski in Mankato. He attended Ss Peter and Paul Catholic School and graduated from Loyola High School. Robert attended Mankato State University and also Mankato Commercial College. He served in the US Army during World War II, in the Hawaiian Islands through the Pacific and landed on Leyte in the Philippines on October 20, 1944. Robert was married to Jean Reynolds on April 26, 1948. He served on the Mankato Charter Commission and on the Mankato City Council from 1970-1984. Robert was in Retail Gasoline Sales for 30 years and was an employee of Mankato State University where he supervised the Minnesota Vikings summer training practice field for many years. He was involved in restoration of Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church , the restoration of Good Counsel Chapel, the Mankato YMCA, and was involved in a scholarship program (Nursing Foundation at Mankato State University), and also the Theresa House at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. He was a member of service organizations including Third and Fourth Degree Knights of Columbus, Eagle's Lodge, American Legion, and also the Veterans of Foreign Wars.
Robert is survived by his wife, Jean of Mankato; three children, Dr. Thomas (Christy) Schramski of Tucson, AZ; Jim (Mary) Schramski of Mankato; Nancy Schramski of Long Beach, CA, and two grandchildren, Sam and Paul Schramski of Tucson, AZ; two step-granddaughters, Daisia and Akilah.
Robert was preceded in death by his mother, Florence in 1951; his dad, Leo in 1979; daughter, Patricia Schramski in 2004; his brother, Linus, who was a decorated Army Officer, a prisoner of war and a survivor of the Bataan death march during World War II.
The family wants to thank the Emergency Room nurses along with other support personnel at the hospital for the much appreciated care for Bob.
