Rodney Norville Yarger, age 88, of Madelia, died Sunday, June 6, 2010 at the Madelia Community Hospital.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 10, 2010 at Mankato Mortuary with Rev. Gene Alms officiating. Burial will be in Storden Baptist Cemetery, Storden, Minnesota. Visitation will be from 5 " 7 p.m., Wednesday and one hour before the service on Thursday at Mankato Mortuary.
Rodney was born March 3, 1922 to Arthur M. and Amanda (Jorgenson) Yarger in Storden. He served his country during World War II from 1942-1946 with the Battery C 229 Searchlight Bn. as a radar crewman. He was stationed in New Guinea in the Asiatic-Pacific Theatre. He returned to Storden and then went to Scotia, California to work at the redwood mills. His father moved to California and he worked alongside him for three years. He later moved back to Storden. On March 24, 1951 he was united in marriage to Darlene A. Sabolik at Bethany Church in Storden. They moved to Madelia where he continued to work as a carpenter until semi-retiring on his 62nd birthday. As a carpenter he enjoyed his shop and using his talent he traveled to build and teach in Ghana, West Africa, twice and Madagascar, Mission Builders Program in Michigan, Texas, and Camp House Bible Camp at Two Harbors. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Madelia since 1952. He was always active with projects for his family and traveling. As a grandson said "He was a good man."
Rodney is survived by his wife, Darlene Yarger of Madelia; three children, Colleen (Dale) Hall of St. Clair, MN, Chris (Monica Jo) Yarger of Eagle Lake, Tamara (Greg) Molander of Leaf River, IL; six grandchildren, Kasey, Katelyn, Johnathan (Trude), Andrew, Josh, and Becky; brother-in-law, Mervin "Bud" (Betty) Sabolik; sister-in-law, LaVonne (Rich) Roll; nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Rodney was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Russell and Cliff; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Sabolik.
