Margaret Ann Burkholder Mett died peacefully in her home on February 4, 2014. Born December 11, 1920, she enjoyed 93 years of full living.
Funeral services will be held at First Congregational United Church of Christ, 11:00 AM on Friday, February 14th with visitation 9:30 " 10:30 AM at the church, 150 Stadium Court, Mankato MN.

She is survived by her three children: Coreen Mett (Pat) of Christiansburg, VA, Marcia Mett of Vero Beach, FL, and Norman (Judy) Mett of West Concord, MN. Additionally, two grandchildren Anton (Melissa) Mett and Chelsey (Patrick) Ness along with 8 great grandchildren all live nearby. Only last week, Margaret found great joy in cuddling the latest great grandchild, just 5 weeks old. Her sister, Kathie Skelton, and Margaret's brother-in-law, Franklin (Edna) Mett live in northern Iowa. She was preceded in death by her husband, Morris.

Her younger days were spent in Sioux Rapids and Spencer areas of northern Iowa. Mid-life was spent in Comfrey, MN and later winters in Apache Junction, AZ. Eventually, Margaret settled in Oak Terrace Independent Living, North Mankato.
She graduated from Buena Vista University and taught in northern Iowa until she married her beloved Morris in Spencer. They soon migrated to a farm in Comfrey, MN where they worked more than 50 years nurturing the land, animals, and people around them. She taught speech, English, and coached drama, at Comfrey High School for 11 years. Margaret then attained a Master's Degree at Minnesota State University, Mankato and taught English there before retiring back to the farm. A devoted teacher, author, church member, master gardener, community citizen and world traveler, she tackled each challenge with gusto. Her ultimate writing project was a recent pair of memoirs capturing the rugged young farm life and subsequent teaching years. The moniker "Ma Mett" reflects the way that she touched the lives of students. She remained a life-long mentor to several who kept in touch for decades beyond the classroom.

In lieu of flowers, please honor the charity of your choice. Margaret was a regular contributor to both Red Cross and Salvation Army, in gratitude for their efforts after the Comfrey tornado.
