Marlowe Herbert Grau, age 67 of New Ulm, died Friday, August 27, 2010 at Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital, Mankato.
Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, September 7, 2010 at the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Mankato, with Rev. Al Thompson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Ft. Snelling National Cemetery, Minneapolis. Memorials are preferred to the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Mankato. Mankato Mortuary is assisting with arrangements.
Marlowe was born July 16, 1943 to Roman A. G. and Irma M. (Frank) Grau. He attended school at Minnesota Valley Lutheran Elementary and Middle School and graduated from New Ulm Public High School. Marlowe served in the United States Army from 1968 to 1970. He was trained as a MP at Ft. Gordon, GA and served in Vietnam. Marlowe was a machine operator for AMPI for 18 years. From 1997 to 2007 he worked in maintenance and as a custodian for the New Ulm School District. Marlowe was a member of the VFW and American Legion in New Ulm. He enjoyed reading (especially sci-fi), spending time at the public library, playing softball in his younger years, bowling and watching sports. Marlowe also had a great love for Dr. Pepper.
Marlowe is survived by his two daughters, Karen Grau; Laura Grau; four sons, Marlowe "Gus" (Melissa) Grau; Andrew Maurer; Zachary Grau; Joshua Grau; seven grandchildren; one sister, Lila Bruns and nieces and nephews.
Marlowe was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Myron Bruns.
