Karyn M (Callanan) Altemus

Karyn Marie Altemus (Callanan) age 48 of Newark, DE, died May 1, 2010 at the Heartland Hospice House from colon cancer.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1:30 p.m., Monday, May 10, 2010 at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church with Fr. Don Rauscher officiating. Visitation will be held from 9:30 a.m. until 11:30 a.m., Monday, May 10, 2010 at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. Memorials are preferred to the American Cancer Society.

Karyn was born April 5, 1962 in St. Cloud, MN to Paul and Marlyn Callanan. Her family moved to Mankato in 1970. Karyn graduated from East High School in 1980 and Anoka Technical College in 1984. She worked as a Respiratory Therapist for 25 years.

Karyn enjoyed traveling and worked as a traveling therapist in Texas, New York, Vermont and Maryland. She was a Peds-Neo Specialist and worked in the Pediatric and Neonatal ICU's. Karyn moved to Newark, DE in 2003 after accepting a position as a Home Care Therapist with American Home Patient.

In Delaware, Karyn met Gregory L. Altemus. They were united in marriage, September 8, 2005.

Karyn was an avid reader and belonged to a book club at the local library. She also loved animals and was a "helping hands" member at the Delaware Humane Association. She especially loved spending time with her nieces and nephews.

Along with her husband, Karyn is survived by her parents; four sisters: Rhonda Callanan of Mankato, Kathy Raley (Jim) of Columbia, MD, Jennifer Stevens (Robert) of Oak Hill, VA and Sandra Callanan of Corona del Mar, CA. She is also survived by five nieces, four nephews, many aunts, uncles, cousins, friends and her beloved pets, Kirby, Callie and Gretta. She was preceded in death by her grandparents; father-in-law, Harry Altemus and mother-in-law, Joanne Altemus.
