Roger Thomas Hohenstein, age 73, of Balsam Lake, WI and formerly of Mankato, died Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the Good Samaritan Society in St. Croix Falls, WI from complications of Parkinson's and Lewy Body Disease.
Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2010 at Christ the King Lutheran Church, Mankato. Burial will be in Mt. Olivet Cemetery, Mankato. Visitation will be held from 4-7 p.m., Tuesday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Wednesday.
Roger was born January 26, 1937 to Walter Emil and Rose Ann (Kubes) Hohenstein in Mankato. He graduated from Mankato High School in 1955. He met his future wife, Deanna M. Ritz at the Kato Ballroom and they were married six months later on October 17, 1959 at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Mankato. Roger was employed by Mankato Engineering, Model Dairy, Doring Brothers, and Mankato East High School before retiring in 2000. They moved to Balsam Lake, WI in 2000. Roger was a charter member of Messiah Lutheran Church where he worked extensively with building the church and made all the stained glass windows in the sanctuary. Roger enjoyed fishing, auto racing, working with his hands, and spending time with his family.
Roger is survived by his wife, Deanna of Balsam Lake, WI; three children, Keith (Mary) Hohenstein of Maple Grove, Donna (Drake) Lockman of Lino Lakes, Doug (Cindy) Hohenstein of Iron; seven grandchildren, Bethany and Brenner Hohenstein, Tony and Ben Lockman, Beau, Drew, and Rylee Hohenstein; three siblings, Maurice (Meryl) Olsen of Rapid City, SD, Shirley (Gerald) Quilling of St. Louis Park, and Carole (Ronald) Rudenick of Nicollet; many nieces and nephews.
Roger was preceded in death by his parents.
