Norbert August Pomerenke, age 90, of North Mankato, died Friday, April 30, 2010 at Immanuel-St. Joseph's Hospital.
Funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Monday, May 3, 2010 at St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church in North Mankato. Burial with military honors will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park. Visitation will be from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Mankato Mortuary and will continue one hour prior to the service at the church on Monday. In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church.
Norbert was born on April 4, 1920 in Good Thunder to August and Ida (Zuelke) Pomerenke. He attended school in Good Thunder. Norbert served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1942. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Jensen on September 1, 1941 in Good Thunder. Norbert farmed for four years and was a driver for Superior Concrete for forty years. He was a member of St. Paul's Ev. Lutheran Church. Norbert enjoyed fishing, spending time with grandchildren, playing cards, and sitting outside his home on Belgrade Avenue watching traffic go by.
Norbert is survived by his three children, Linda (Roger) Hoechst of Lake Crystal, LeRoy (Kay) Pomerenke of Rapid City, SD, Robert (Anita) Pomerenke of Rochester; eight grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; fourteen great-grandchildren; son-in-law, DeLon Knudson of Waseca; nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Dorothy in 2001; daughter, Donna Knudson; great-grandson, Nicholas Knudson; sister, Eleanor Thorson; half brother, Richard Pomerenke.
