Barbara Jean Smith, age 85, of St. Paul and formerly of Lake Crystal, died Monday, April 26, 2010 at Alton Memory Care in St. Paul.

Memorial Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, May 1, 2010 at the First United Methodist Church, Lake Crystal with Rev. Debbie King Quale, officiating. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m., Friday at Lake Crystal Mortuary and will continue one hour before service at church on Saturday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to the First United Methodist Church or the Alzheimer's Association.

Barbara was born March 22, 1925 to Carl T. and Jeannette E. (Carlson) Nordstrom in Minneapolis. She graduated from South High School in 1943 and from the University of Minnesota in 1947 with a B.A. degree in Psychology. Barbara was united in marriage to Dr. Harry J. Smith on September 6, 1947 in Minneapolis. Barbara was a past member and past chair of both the Lake Crystal School Board and the Immanuel St. Joseph's Hospital Board. She was a very active member of the First United Methodist Church. She enjoyed gardening, wind surfing on Crystal Lake, water and snow skiing, walking her dogs, being active, quilting for her grandchildren, and time with her family.

Barbara is survived by four daughters, Nancy (Dennis) Cramblit of North Mankato, Susie Smith of St. Paul, Cathy Guy of Chanhassen, Dr. Jody Smith (Mike Randall) of Duluth; son, Dr. Steven (Mary) Smith of Sevierville, TN; eight grandchildren, Darcy, Derek, and Tommy Cramblit, Brandon and Aly Smith, Barbara Guy and fianc", Chris Leonard, Jeffrey Guy, Orie Ella Randall; great-grandchild, Aiden McClay Butterfield; nieces and nephews.

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents and husband, Dr. Harry on April 15, 2000.
