John Edward Boylan, age 91 of Duluth and formerly of Mankato, died Friday, April 2, 2010 in Duluth.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 7, 2010 at SS Peter and Paul Catholic Church in Mankato with Rev. Ted Hottinger S.J. officiating. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery in Mankato. Visitation will be on Tuesday from 5 " 7 p.m., with a 6:00 p.m. Rosary at Mankato Mortuary. Visitation continues one hour before the service at the church on Wednesday. [email protected]John Edward Boylan was born to James Boylan and Johanna (Josephine) Ferris Boylan on July 31, 1918. He attended SS Peter and Paul's grade school and graduated from Loyola High School. His higher education included St. Louis University; the University of Notre Dame; Laval University (Quebec, Canada) and Mankato State Teacher's College. He supported his family as a secondary school teacher in southern Minnesota, Quebec City, Canada and Long Island, New York. After leaving Mankato in 1962, to teach in Canada and New York, he and his wife Betty returned in 1984. They relocated to Duluth in 2002. He is survived by four of his five children: Eugene (wife Connie); Patrick (friend Donna); Mary (husband Patrick); and Sean (wife Angela). His grandchildren are: Matthew, Eileen, Amy, Colleen and Maureen.
His second son, Timothy, died in 1980. His only sibling, Sister Mary Boylan, SSND, predeceased him in February 2008. His wife, Betty, died last November.
