Vera F. Ballman Tuberg, age 89, of Northfield and formerly of Mankato died Tuesday, March 30, 2010 at Three Links Care Center in Northfield.
Funeral Service will be held at 11:00 a.m., Tuesday, April 6, 2010 at Grace Lutheran Church, Mankato. Visitation will be held from 9:30 until the time of service Tuesday at church. Burial will be in Woodland Hills Memorial Park, Mankato. Mankato Mortuary is in charge of arrangements.
Vera was born on December 25, 1920 in Westbrook, MN to George and Rosina "Rose" Weirauch. Her parents divorced and Rose later married Henry Siebert. Vera was a 1939 graduate of Cleveland High School and attended Mankato Commercial College graduating in 1940. She also attended Mankato State University and received a Bachelor of Science degree in Sociology in 1976. She was united in marriage to Gordon Ballman on June 20, 1942 at Camp Barkley in Abilene, TX. After the war (World War II), Gordon and Vera settled in Mankato where they purchased the Mankato Ice Company which they operated until his death in 1959. His untimely death at 46 was due to Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig's Disease). After Mr. Ballman's passing, Vera owned and operated their real estate holdings for nearly 20 years.
Vera married Lenus C. Tuberg in May of 1986. The couple enjoyed spending time with their friends on Dolph Road as well as many other long-time Mankato friends. Their love of visiting family and traveling coincided with trips to Virginia, Texas, Colorado and many interesting points in between. Lenus passed away on February 24, 2007.
Vera was a member of Grace Lutheran Church and was active in Church Women United. She was also active in DFL politics and was a delegate to the state DFL convention as a McGovern representative. She enjoyed traveling with Lenus, reading, and crossword puzzles.
Vera is survived by a son, Gordon (Nance) Ballman of St. Paul, and their children, Lee-za (Joe) Matthews of St. Paul and a-Lia Ballman of St. Paul; daughter, Barbara (Blair) Fowler of Northfield, and their daughter, Kathryn (Josh) Rock and their children Samantha and Cullen of Sauk Rapids, and their son Jeffrey Fowler of Northfield; daughter, Beverly Erbert of Plymouth and her daughter, Elizabeth Erbert of Plymouth; brother, John (Delores) Rath of Fairbury, IL; step-son-in-law, Ted Seward of Fairfax Station, VA; two step-granddaughters, Cheryl Seward Johnson (Michael) and Christine Seward Allred (Brian) of Arlington, VA; five step-great-grandchildren.
Vera was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands, Gordon and Lenus; step-father, Henry Seibert; step-daughter, Judy Seward.
